A Review of Viridian Saffron Extract | For Mood & Anxiety | Elixir Health Foods

Click here: Viridian Saffron Extract to view and buy.
The nights are getting longer and with less daylight this can bring on a condition known as SAD, seasonal affective disorder. Although the exact cause of SAD isn't fully understood, experts theorise that a lack of sunlight might stop a part of the brain called the hypothalamus working properly, affecting the production of the key mood and sleep hormones, melatonin and serotonin.
It’s also considered that lack of vitamin D synthesis, normally a process of the sun on the skin, can affect mood, and the Government recommends that everyone in the UK supplements with appropriate vitamin D from October to March to protect against deficiency.
Another supplement which is gaining a significant reputation for its anti-depression qualities is saffron. That’s right, the herb you probably know best from your granny’s saffron buns and the paella you had on your holiday in Spain. However, saffron also has a long history in traditional healing.

In modern times, saffron’s health properties have attracted considerable scientific interest. Chief among them are studies on its uplifting and antidepressant activity, and research into enhancing cognitive ability. Studies also show that saffron is just as effective against other conditions for which antidepressant drugs are commonly prescribed, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Saffron has also been studied as a potential treatment for stress related over-eating. In a group of overweight women it was found that saffron supplementation for eight weeks resulted in a significant decrease in snacking frequency and body weight. Remarkably, newly published evidence demonstrates that saffron also works as adjunct therapy to reverse some of the unwanted side effects frequently experienced when taking conventional antidepressants.

At Elixir, we particularly like Viridian Nutrition’s Saffron Extract with Marigold as it is a totally pure product and one capsule gives you the correct daily amount of saffron. After reviewing a vast array of nutrition and herbal research, and speaking with leading experts, Viridian Nutrition has duly recognised saffron, naming it the ‘Viridian Ingredient of the Year 2018’ in further anticipation of its positive influence on health. Saffron extract together with vitamin D could prove to be the right programme to help you banish those winter blues.
This is a great time to try it for yourself. There are no known side effects but as always, if you are on other medication, speak to your medical practitioner before taking any supplements.

Turmeric Spray from BetterYou for Joint Pain and Anti-Inflammatory Conditions

Click here: Elixirhealth.co.uk - for SPECIAL OFFER ON Turmeric Spray, July 2017

By Randi Henderson

"Turmeric is a spice with an impressive list of uses and benefits, and is used in many cuisines around the world. It comes from the dried and ground root of a plant in the same family as ginger, and is well known for its bright yellow colour.

Turmeric is now of increasing interest because of its antioxidant content and ability to work as a powerful anti-inflammatory. Modern medicine recognizes its health benefits and it has been used extensively in natural and folk medicine for centuries. The benefits attributed to this colourful spice are the result of the curcuminoids it contains - the active ingredients in turmeric.

The problem is that turmeric is very poorly absorbed in the gut, meaning it’s not enough to simply eat a curry every once in a while!

At Elixir, we are excited that the world’s first Turmeric Oral Spray has just been launched in the UK, which has proven to be far more effective than the average tablets or capsules. Using molecular encapsulation, BetterYou’s Turmeric Oral Spray guarantees better absorption than tablets since it bypasses the digestive system altogether. This is great news as turmeric can have as low as 1% absorption in the gut.
The unique formulation increases bioavailability (absorption), improves taste and delivers the active curcuminoids directly into the bloodstream via the inner cheek. It also ensures you do not suffer discolouration of your teeth, which would otherwise be a problem with a liquid formula.
The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric mean that anyone with arthritis or rheumatism would find it very helpful. Its antioxidant properties have cell-protective actions including prevention of free radical damage, inhibiting the replication of damaged cells. Turmeric has also been used for digestive problems such as gastritis and hyperacidity, as it helps protect the stomach lining. By increasing the flow of bile into the intestines, the break-down of dietary fat is also improved.

In other words, turmeric is an anti-inflammatory which is actually good for your stomach. If you have ever had to take anti-inflammatory medication, this is definitely a characteristic you will appreciate!

BetterYou’s Turmeric Oral Spray uses natural ingredients and the orange flavoured formulation is suitable for vegetarians, diabetics and coeliac, and is safe to use during pregnancy.

At Elixirhealth.co.uk we have a July 2017 in-store SPECIAL OFFER of Turmeric Oral Spray, so now is an excellent time to try it for yourself.

Solgar 7 - To Improve flexibility, overall mobility, and range of motion

To BUY Solgar 7 at Elixirhealth.co.uk - Click here.

A study by The Lancet published in 2012 found that musculoskeletal conditions were the second greatest cause of disability in the world, affecting over 1.7 billion people worldwide.  If you are a reluctant member of that club, you may want to try the product I’m introducing you to today.  In fact, Solgar is so confident of its efficacy that they are offering a money back guarantee this month.

The product in question is Solgar®7, a complex which improves joint comfort within seven days, hence the name.  This is a unique formulation which really is the next generation in joint health.  It is aimed at people who experience aching joints after exercise or strenuous activity, which can strike at any age; and is an excellent alternative to Glucosamine.

Solgar®7 is a once-a-day capsule that forges bioactive nutrients to increase joint flexibility and range of motion.  Where traditional Glucosamine formulas focus on cartilage support, Solgar®7 targets multiple pathways to balance the release of joint enzymes and structurally support collagen building blocks as well as cartilage.

So, what’s in it?
Well, the main star of the show is a Boswellia extract called 5-Loxin® Advanced.  This is a unique Boswellia (or Frankincense) extract which has been enriched with a botanical oil, which combines to make a particularly powerful anti-inflammatory.

You then have UC-II, which is a patented undenatured type II collagen with a unique action: it deactivates the inflammatory process at the source, preventing further breakdown of joint cartilage.  UC-II deactivates collagen-specific T-cells allowing the body to reduce inflammation and rebuild and repair articular cartilage.

In order to aid collagen formation there is also Vitamin C in the form of Ester-C, which helps protect cells from oxidative damage.

There are two more anti-inflammatory herbs:  Turmeric, with its active ingredient curcumin, is a potent antioxidant capable of inhibiting inflammatory agents; and Ginger root which inhibit COX-2 and LOX inflammatory pathways.

There is also White Willow bark, the use of which dates back to Hippocrates when it was used to reduce fever and inflammation.  It contains salicin, a chemical similar to aspirin and has a powerful analgesic effect.

The very last ingredient is a pepper complex, which both helps to enhance the absorption of other compounds as well as decrease the sensation of pain.

So there you have it:  an all-in-one anti-inflammatory, pain killer and repairer to get you out and running again before you know it. As always, please consult your medical practitioner first if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking other medication.

Mag Phos Tissue Salt - No.8 - Cramps & Spasms - the Anti-Spasmodic Tissue Salt for Cyclists and the Sportsman

New Era Tissue Salts – BUY NOW – CLICK HERE: www.neweratissuesalt.co.uk or www.elixirhealth.co.uk

Sometimes we need to get back to the source of accurate information to guarantee what is being written about the tissue salts is faithful to the writings of Dr Schuessler, and to do that we need look no further than the Biochemic Tissue Salts Handbook, written by the man himself. In it he writes about Mag Phos, one of the most popular of the cell salts, and has this to say:
"MAG. PHOS. (Magnesium Phosphate) Mag. Phos. is known as the anti-spasmodic tissue salt. Its main function is in connection with the nervous system where it supplements the action of Kali Phos.
New Era Mag Phos Number 8 Tissue SaltWhen a deficiency of Mag. Phos. occurs, the white nerve fibres contract, causing spasms and cramps. This tissue salt is of importance to muscular tissue, ensuring rhythmic and coherent movement. Mag. Phos. is quick to relieve pain, especially cramping, shooting, darting or spasmodic pains. Mag. Phos. is indicated for nerve pains, such as neuralgia, neuritis and sciatica, and headaches accompanied by shooting, darting stabs of pain. It relieves muscular twitching, cramps, hiccups, convulsive fits of coughing and those sudden, sharp twinges of pain that are so distressing. It also relieves menstrual pains. Stomach cramps and flatulence respond to treatment with this tissue salt. These symptoms may be aggravated by cold and by touching and are relieved by the application of heat, by pressure and by bending double.
The doses may be taken at frequent intervals until relief is obtained. Because magnesium has been
assumed to be plentiful in the diet, some authorities have considered a deficiency unlikely. But this is not necessarily so, as recent research has proved that some diets provide insufficient magnesium for the body’s needs.
NOTE: Mag. Phos. will often act more rapidly when the tablets are taken with a sip of hot water."

So, overall here are the potential benefits and uses of Mag Phos:

Abdominal Cramps:

These cramps are often associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and can come on and go away rather quickly. Mag phos may help with the terrible restless pain that comes about and it may also help with the bloated feeling in the abdomen as well. ( See also Combination Tissue Salt E )

Menstrual Cramps:

Women who suffer from sharp and sometimes severe cramps can get great help from using the homeopathic remedy of mag phos. It can help the body naturally alleviate the shooting pains and all of the other symptoms that are associated with them. (See also Combination N)

Neuralgia:

These are sharp and radiating pains that can appear and then disappear within the body very quickly. This can cause the person to cry in response to the pain felt as the muscles become stiff and almost numb. Mag phos may be of great help with this and help the pain to subside.

Headaches:

This is the type of pain that involves shooting pains up the back of the neck and spreading all across the head. The face may become red and start to throb as a result of the pain. (See also Combination F)

Toothaches:

Mag phos can help with dull or throbbing pains in the teeth, particularly in infants who are going through the teething phase but Combination Salt R is also indicated for infant teething.

Earaches:

This homeopathic remedy can help with pains in the ear that are shooting and that may become worse after exposure to the cold or wind.

The trouble is, it can be a nightmare trying to negotiate a balance without turning your whole existence upside down.
randi-questAn easy way to achieve this, is to add one little thing to your daily routine: a good quality fish oil. Human beings originate from the water’s edge and our building blocks are set up to thrive on nutrition derived from fish. With the best will in the world however, very few of us manage to include a sufficient amount in our daily diet to achieve optimum health.
That’s where a good quality supplement comes in handy. At Elixir, we are particularly fond of Quest’s Omega 3 Fish Oil, as we always get such incredibly positive feed-back. They contain a good source of EPA and DHA, which are both essential long-chain omega fats that provide benefits such as boosting brain health, aiding in recovery from exercise-induced inflammation and contributing to a more positive mood.
Benefits of Omega 3 Fatty Acids
Over the years many different health benefits have been discovered for omega 3’s. These include:
• Healthy Heart – Omega 3 fatty acids can reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Studies also indicate that they can help to reduce high blood pressure.
• Joint Pain and Mobility – Numerous studies findings show that EPA in fish oil may offer anti-inflammatory benefits.
• Stroke – Omega 3 can help to promote healthy blood circulation which can improve the health of arteries by reducing the build-up of plaque and blood clots.
• Brain Function – EPA and DHA can help to insulate nerve cells in the brain, which improves their ability to communicate with each other effectively. As a result they are often referred to as ‘brain food’.
• Depression and Mood – Numerous studies have looked in detail at the relationship between omega 3’s and depression. Results have found that higher levels of EPA and DHA may help to reduce feelings of anxiety and irritability.
• Hormonal Balance – Omega 3’s are integral for the production of hormones. As a result they can help to regulate hormone production and offer relief from menstrual cramps or menopausal symptoms.
• Skin Conditions – If you are deficient in Omega 3 then you may find that your skin is dry and cracked. Omega 3 may provide anti-inflammatory properties that can be useful in preventing or treating skin conditions such as rosacea, psoriasis and eczema.s
We have a fantastic offer from Quest this month, December 2016 – when you buy one pot of 90 capsules Omega 3 Fish oil, you get another pot of 90 capsules free of charge. Solgar Magnesium Citrate - The Alternative To...Muscle Pains And Sleeping Problems

** Solgar Magnesium Citrate is available from Elixirhealth.co.uk – Click on the link to lean more and to buy online. **

I would like to introduce you to the benefits of magnesium today, as it is an often overlooked mineral. We all know we need it, but there are so many other minerals which are far better publicised than the humble magnesium. For instance, a lot of people will buy calcium for their bone tissue, but did you know that magnesium helps regulate calcium within the bones and teeth? Magnesium also increases the activity of Vitamin D which, among other things, aids calcium absorption. In fact, many experts now feel that magnesium intake is at least as critical to skeletal health as calcium.

At Elixir, we are particularly fond of Solgar’s Magnesium Citrate, which is an easily absorbed type of magnesium. There are a multitude of potential reasons why you may want to supplement with magnesium, but here are some of the main applications:

Muscle cramps, spasms and twitches
Magnesium is needed for the relaxation of muscle tissue, whereas calcium facilitates contraction. Magnesium’s action as a muscle relaxant relates to its ability to block muscle uptake of calcium.

Sleeping problems
When your muscles relax, so do you. Sweet dreams!

Nerve health and function
Magnesium works in tandem with calcium to ensure proper nerve impulse transmission. Deficiency is linked to lactic acid build-up leading to an imbalance which is linked to anxiety and stress related disorders.

Hormonal health Deficiency can severely impair hormone balance in women and is a causal factor in many cases of PMT, leading to mood swings, weight gain and nervous tension.

Cardiovascular health and high blood pressure Magnesium deficiency is a common feature of conditions such as arrhythmias, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, mitral valve prolapse and peripheral vascular disease. Evidence suggests that supplementation can be both preventative and therapeutic. Many of the benefits of magnesium relates to its role in vascular smooth muscle function, leading to relaxation of the vascular muscle as well as blocking smooth muscle uptake of calcium. It also helps to reduce sodium build-up within cells that would otherwise elevate blood pressure. Excessive blood clotting and calcification of blood vessels is reduced, leading to less accumulation of atherosclerotic plaque.

Pain relief Some pain is caused by tense muscles and nerves, and may be relieved by taking magnesium. Migraine, tension headaches, PMT and fibromyalgia are just some examples where taking a therapeutic dose of magnesium may help. As a general rule, anyone can take magnesium but just be aware that you may end up with loose stools if you take high doses, and if you are on medication you should check with your doctor first.

  • Muscle cramps, spasms and twitches
  • Sleeping problems
